Monitoring
The purpose of the nature monitoring is the registration of the changes which occur in the environment. They can be natural such as ecological succession or anthropological. Data gathered during the monitoring of the Park’s environment are a precious source of information which allows to take the right decision in the management of the Park.
The first monitoring program was initiated a year after the foundation of the Park. It was the evaluation of the amount of deer living in the Park. It is still being carried on and it gives basic data for the actions taken to control the Red Deer and Roe Deer populations.
In the following years the amount of the nature monitoring has been increasing regularly. In 2006 there were 21 monitoring programs carried on. The programs are very different – to start with flora and tree stands monitoring through amphibians, rodents, birds, deer, predators monitoring as well as the inanimate nature and landscape monitoring.
The variety of programs would not be possible to accomplished without the cooperation with other institutions: the Regional Environmental Inspectorate, the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management in Krakow, the Faculty of Forestry at the Agricultural University in Krakow and the Mammal Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Bialowieza.
